Barley With Ginger and Broccoli

6 cups water
1 cup dry barley
1 once inch cub fresh ginger, sliced
1 small head of broccoli, chopped into pieces
1 teaspoon thyme
1 1/2 teaspoons oregano
1 1/2 teaspoons basil
Black pepper and ghee to taste
 

Barley With Ginger And Broccoli Preparation Method

Place the water, barley and ginger together in a medium saucepan, and bring to boil.  Lower the heat, cover the pan, and let the mixture simmer for 35 minutes. 

Add broccoli and continue to simmer until the barley is cooked, about 25 minutes more.  Add all the herbs and ghee.  Simmer a few minutes more then serve. 

Make 2 servings.

Per Servings; 181 calories, 7 g protein, 37 g carbohydrates, 1 g fat, 0 mg cholesterol, 31 mg sodium, 10g fiber.

Barley with ginger and broccoli is good for fasting and cleansing, constipation and liver support

Broccoli contains sulphorophanes, biochemicals that liver needs in order to carry out its work of body detox.  Both barley and broccoli are high in fiber, which help reduce cholesterol while sweeping the toxin from the body.  This clensing dish can be used during a semi-fast.
